Warning: Watch Your Health!

I've been a bit hesitant to put this on my blog, because it's not a fun site, but in a way it's related to vintage posters with history. The site is very serious and grim. It might be depressing for some people. But, I think it's still interesting to see how the government dealt with promoting health's awareness, when the public was struggling with the veneral diseases like the TB and Gonorrhea, back in the early 20th century. Some of these posters are from other countries too.

The Government's website presents these health posters for infectious diseases, environmental health, anti smoking campaigns and HIV/AIDS.

Beware, that many of these posters are visually grim and disturbing. The venereal diseases from the 40's are particularly creepy. It's the painting style that bothered me, I guess. The posters above this post, "milder" posters.

You have to click on the titles to see the posters, they won't pop up right in front of you once you enter the site. I supposed it's a good thing for some people not to see them right away.

Arnold's Bwain

Definitely one of the weirdest commercials I've ever seen. You'll see Arnold "performs" in a Japanese commercial for a drink called Bwain. He is apparently a genie. The commercial was posted on YouTube just almost two years ago.

Drew Struzan

Drew Struzan is the artist who did poster illustrations for famous movies, such as the Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Shawshank Redemption, and Harry Potter. His portfolio is very impressive. He has also done illustration in the publishing, products, and advertising fields. He also has a portfolio of drawings. He is truly an amazing artist.

Where Is The Old Phone Book?

There are telephone books from the U.S. Australia and Canada. Well, mostly from the US. Unfortunately, most of them are not in good shape. But it is interesting to see the old ones from the early 20th century. I never knew what they looked like. They kinda look like magazines.

Seattle World Fair Of 1962

Seems like there were so many fairs and expos for the last few decades! I can't keep track of them. The University of Washington displays vintage photographs of this fair, and the history of it. In case you don't know this, "Seattle World Fair of 1962" is also called "Century 21 Exposition".

Emilio Pucci A Fashion Designer

Emilio Pucci is a well known fashion designer, who have been designing for many years. As a matter of fact, someone mentioned to me today, that she remembers wearing his clothes back in the 70's. His site is real nice and impressive. I love the clothes' 70's look.

Viewmaster Jodie, Christopher & Henry Fonda

Another commercial with Jodie Foster. I just love this commercial. This one is from 1971 with Henry Fonda, Jodie Foster and Christopher Knight from "The Brady Bunch". I don't recognize the blond kid though, but he does kinda look familiar. Have you notice that you never see the other girl's face? Only part of her eyes, just very briefly. I'm gonna have to call her "the mystery girl". It's rather odd for a commercial, isn't it?
